Belt Guard 10k Ultrasonic
BELT RIP DETECTOR
for steel cord conveyor belts

The Belt Guard® is unique and works in a way no other rip detector in the world works. It can be fitted to most steel cord conveyor belting without modifying the belting, or the need for embedded rip detection elements, during belt manufacture.
The device injects acoustic energy into the pulley cover of the target belting, at the sensing location and this energy propagates across the belt using the rubber and steel matrix as the transmission medium.
One of the main advantages of the device, is that it does not rely on loop antennas or similar transverse elements embedded in the belt. It can be installed on any belt that is a satisfactory acoustic host and thus allows you to mix belting from different manufacturers in a single conveyor flight. Belting already fitted with loops etc. can be protected as normal.
With a 24/7 connection to the Internet, through local networks or Mobile Wireless Broadband facilities, the system is monitored, optimised and maintained remotely from any location with an Internet connection. Software/firmware upgrades can be uploaded remotely, so each system can be kept up-to-date with current versions.
The length of a belt has no impact on the size/cost of a system, but belt width does. A basic three-transducer system will cover belts up to 1,000mm wide, with the maximum nine-transducer system accommodating good host belting up to 3,500mm wide.
Standard in each system is one IP network surveillance camera that can be used to monitor the sensing location. This is useful in the follow up of trip events. More cameras can be added if desired and all can be accessed live over the internet or through the site's local network.
The Belt Guard 10k is effective on belts running at any speed and conveying any product.
The Belt Guard 10k can detect partial depth rips, if desired. Some of the most catastrophic rips recorded did not involve full penetration of the belt.
With inbuilt self-diagnostics, the device will alert appropriate personnel of potential detector health issues, via SMS or email. Fault finding by a product specialist is facilitated through the hi-speed Internet connection.
All detector enclosures are rated IP69K. The RX and TX 'front end' enclosures are fabricated from 316 marine grade stainless steel as standard, with the Main Electrical Enclosure offered in 316 as an option.
A maintenance/service agreement is mandatory for each system installed, to ensure the integrity and proper functionality of the device. These agreements are tailored to each client's needs and capabilities.
All relevant Data and Events are logged in non-volatile memory and can be downloaded and used for trouble shooting or trending. This is useful in driving consumable component replacement. Sophisticated graphing software makes Data and Event analysis simple and intuitive.
Belt Guard 10k maintenance is divided into two components;
1. Product specialist supervision, and
2. Routine on-site maintenance,
and is driven by performance data analysis and on-site observations.
Product specialist supervision includes real-time monitoring and adjustment of the device's operational parameters, based on current data analysis. This ensures that the device is always correctly adjusted in accordance with belt variations through age, usage, changing ambient conditions and belt inserts/section replacement. This also involves trouble shooting, as required.
Routine on-site maintenance is typically limited to transducer replacement and regular in-situ cleaning of transducers, mounts and cameras. With this in mind, transducer change-out has been designed to be as simple as possible. No unusual tools are required and no special skill set needed.
