General
What is the Belt Guard product range?
The Belt Guard range is a family of conveyor belt monitoring and protection instruments manufactured by Beltscan Systems. The range covers three categories: Rip Detection, Condition Monitoring, and Cover Thickness measurement — providing a holistic asset management solution for steel cord and fabric conveyor belting.
Who has previously purchased Belt Guard products?
Belt Guard products are trusted by well-known mining and industrial companies worldwide including BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore, Anglo American, Fortescue, Newmont, Vale, Peabody Energy, Barrick Gold, Freeport-McMoRan, and many more across Australia, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Where are Belt Guard products deployed?
Belt Guard products are deployed at hundreds of sites globally across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Korea, South America (Chile, South America, Argentina), North America (USA, Canada, Mexico), Europe (UK, Germany, Scandinavia, Spain, Bulgaria), Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Gabon), and the Middle East.
Which countries do you ship to?
Beltscan Systems ships globally. We have official agents covering Canada/Northern USA (KATAK), Africa/Europe/Middle East (Stark Vulcanising Products) and South Korea (AST International), with direct support available for all other regions from our headquarters in Queensland, Australia.
Technology & Products
Do Belt Guard products require sensor loops in the belt?
No. Belt Guard products do not require sensor loops or antennae embedded in the belt. The Belt Scanner MF uses non-contact electromagnetic scanning and the BG5k uses non-contact belt dimension monitoring — neither requires any belt modification.
Are Belt Guard products belt brand independent?
Yes. Belt Guard products are completely belt manufacturer agnostic. They work with any brand of steel cord or fabric belting (depending on the product), which means you are not locked into a specific belt supplier.
What is Disastrous Event Detection (DED)?
DED is a feature of the Belt Scanner MF and MR systems that provides automatic belt stop protection when critical damage is detected. If a penetrating object or catastrophic belt event occurs, DED triggers an immediate stop signal to the conveyor drive, typically within 3 seconds of detection.
What is Programmed Parking?
Programmed Parking is a feature of the Belt Scanner MF (Fixed) that automatically positions a flagged section of belt at a designated maintenance location. Instead of manually inching the belt, the system calculates belt distance and stops it precisely where maintenance access is available.
Can Belt Guard systems integrate with our existing SCADA?
Yes. Belt Guard systems support integration with existing SCADA and PLC environments. The BG5k and Belt Scanner MF communicate via Modbus TCP. Contact Beltscan for specific integration requirements.
Installation & Support
How long does installation take?
Installation times vary by product: the BG5k and the Belt Scanner MF each typically commission in 1 day. Installation can generally be performed while the conveyor remains in operation.
Do I need specialist personnel for installation?
Most Belt Guard products can be installed by site personnel using our detailed documentation, with remote Beltscan support. For Belt Scanner MF installations, we recommend on-site Beltscan specialist involvement during commissioning. Full training is included.
What maintenance is required?
Belt Guard products require low maintenance. All systems benefit from periodic washdown to prevent product build-up. The BG5k features automatic buildup detection that reports blocked probes automatically. The Belt Scanner MF has no user-serviceable internal components.
