The Belt Guard Cover Care CC222 is a fully portable instrument for spot measurement of remaining cover thickness on steel cord conveyor belting. An inductive hand probe is placed in contact with the belt surface and detects the steel cords beneath the cover; a microprocessor calculates the distance from the probe face to the tops of the cords and displays it in millimetres. Unlike ultrasonic instruments used for the same purpose, no coupling medium is required and measurement accuracy is not affected by changes in ambient temperature. The belt must be stationary at the time of measurement.

How CC222 Works

Select the Belt Profile

Load or select the correct belt construction / calibration profile for the belt being measured.

Stop and Isolate the Belt

The CC222 is a handheld spot-measurement instrument used on a stationary belt. The conveyor and any associated machines must be isolated and all site safety requirements met before measurement.

Place the Probe

Position the probe squarely on the required measurement location. Because minimum cover is usually what matters, the probe is moved over an area to confirm the lowest reading.

Read Remaining Cover Thickness

The instrument measures and displays remaining rubber cover thickness at the selected location in millimetres.

Measurements can be recorded and compared over time to monitor wear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CC222 need a coupling medium?
No. Unlike ultrasonic instruments used for the same purpose, no coupling medium is required.
Does the belt have to be stopped?
Yes. CC222 is a handheld spot-measurement instrument used on a stationary, isolated belt.
Does ambient temperature affect the reading?
No. Measurement accuracy is not affected by changes in ambient temperature.
What belts can it measure?
Steel cord belting. The probe detects the steel cords beneath the cover, so belts without steel cords cannot be measured.
What is the measuring range and resolution?
0 to 50 mm, with ±0.1 mm resolution. Beltscan publishes resolution only and does not state a separate accuracy figure.
How long does a battery charge last?
Approximately 9 hours from the 12 V 1.3 Ah battery. A charger is supplied in the case.
Can it tell us about cord condition?

Is the probe held against the belt, or does it read from a distance?
It is a contact instrument. The probe face is placed squarely against the belt surface. What sets it apart from ultrasonic gauges is that no coupling medium is needed, not that it reads without contact.
How do we take a reliable reading?
Move the probe slowly across the cord and take the minimum reading — the thinnest cover above the cord crown. Record the value in millimetres and trend it against previous inspections.
